A New Start

Hi to all who may visit this blog. Everything has a beginning, and for me, these are the first efforts or beginnings in modelling Queensland Railways in O scale. Why O scale? That part is easy to answer. I’ve been modelling NSWGR in HO scale for quite a few years now, and part of my focus, has been adding as much detail into my modelling as possible. The idea of more easily adding detail, that you can appreciate more easily, really appeals to me.

There was a model railway exhibition that I attended, many years ago now, that I first came across O scale QR modelling, and I was hooked straight away. I’ve not been confident enough in my modelling skills to do it any sooner, than now. Now that sounds a little arrogant, and that’s not what I mean by this. I guess it’s a combination of several things, confidence to order materials from suppliers, a certain level of confidence in the basics of module construction, and the ability to seek out the information that I need to begin. I should also add that I have some very capable modellers in a group that meets fairly regularly, and I’d feel confident bouncing ideas off them when I had to.

The location I’ve chosen is one of three that I had been considering, the other two being Nambour and Kingston. There has been a lot more usable information available from the Runcorn archives for Beenleigh. The location of Beenleigh is fairly close by, and the layout of the Station area really interested me as a modelling subject. I like older designed track layouts as they had to be fairly self sufficient because of their isolated location, at the time of construction. Beenleigh was constructed around 1885, and the early time period also changes completely the rolling stock that would have been used, to what people around now would remember. That’s a big part for me, modelling something that we cannot see now, a little historical, is that weird?

So I hope to post here my progress, good or bad, things I’ve learnt, things I’ve found. I hope you find it of some interest, and please feel free to post a comment.

So welcome, let’s hope there’s things of interest for us all to learn from,

Have a great week!

Ooroo!

Geoff.
